Meet Coach Sparks

Baseball was Ryan's 1st love. He learned the game from his father, Terry, bonding over countless rounds of catch and batting practice. Ryan played for Quincy High School. After graduating in 2001, he was a preferred walk-on pitcher at Eastern Illinois University but tore his rotator cuff that fall. He transferred his sophomore season to John Wood Community College to play to 3rd base before returning to EIU to finish his business degree.

A 16-year-career as a tech sales executive followed. Then came marriage, pandemic, twins, and a major health scare. That is when Ryan and his wife, Carolyn, decided to move to Quincy from St. Louis to live life surrounded by family and friends in a community that was always calling him back home.

Now Coach Sparks is combining his tech experience and calling to mentorship with his passion for baseball to create an innovative venue for players of all ages to refine their swing. When not at the academy, you can find him on the diamond as an assistant coach for QJHS Comets and QHS Blue Devils.
